TSU College of Agriculture, Human and Natural Sciences (CAHNS) inducted Mr. Hubert Hamer into its 19th Annual Agriculture and Home Economic Hall of Fame and Induction Ceremony in the Magnolia Ballroom at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center. Since 2006, Mr Hamer serves as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) Administrator and brings extensive experience in all aspects of the agency’s work. Before becoming administrator, he served as director of the Statistics Division, which produces and releases more than 400 national statistical reports each year covering the agency’s crops, livestock, economic, demographic, environmental, and census programs. He also served as executive director of the NASS Agricultural Statistics Board (ASB) and executive director of the Advisory Committee on Agriculture Statistics. Mr. Hamer is the first black man to be appointed as a director and USDA Administrator. Mr. Hamer was born on a small livestock and row crop farm in Benton County, Mississippi, and later continued his development in Grand Junction, Tennessee. He is a proud TSU graduate, and member our very own TSU Washington DC Metro Chapter. Congratulations Hall-of-Famer! Mrs. Rhonda Thomas, Founder and President of LEAP Forward, Inc., was recently awarded the 2016 Southern Maryland Minority Chamber of Commerce (SMMCOC) Business of the Year Award at The Sixteenth Annual Leading Edge Awards. Mrs. Thomas graduated from TSU in 1980 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. She also obtained a M.S. degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California and a M.S. degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. As the Founder of LEAP Forward, Mrs. Thomas devoted 7 years to the organization and currently serves as President. With over 25 years of government service, Mrs. Thomas has conducted research and development activities for antisubmarine warfare aircraft, electronic warfare systems, air to ground voice and data communications, flight information services, general aviation, weather and air traffic management programs. Her many affiliations include Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Blacks in Government, National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, Program Manager Professional and our illustrious TSU Alumni Association. Kimberly T. Fowler, PhD currently serves as President of the Tennessee State University Washington, DC Alumni Chapter. Dr. Fowler is a native of Jacksonville, FL. and a second-generation Tennessee State University alum. She graduated from TSU in 1998 with a B.S. in Biology with Honors. She went on to receive her master’s and doctorate from Yale University before working in the arena of Type 1 Diabetes research in Denver, CO for 6 years. She is the Director of Technical Assistance and Research at the National Council of Urban Indian Health in Washington, DC, where she provides technical assistance, research support, and capacity building for urban Indian health clinics and programs across the country to improve the quality and accessibility of health care for American Indian and Alaska Native people living in urban areas. Kim has been a faithful member of the WDC Chapter since moving to the area in 2010, and has been working tirelessly to increase both TSUAA-WDC membership and participation, as well as our Chapter's national recognition. Mr. Stephens, a proud 1968 graduate of Tennessee State University, served as President of the Tennessee State University Alumni Association from 2008 to 2012. Message from TSUAA-WDC President
TSU Alum,
Thank you to everyone that attended and/ or contributed to our Annual 'Give Back' Happy Hour on last Friday! We were able to contribute more than $100 in groceries to the SOME (So Others Might Eat) organization, just in time for Thanksgiving.
SOME (So Others Might Eat) is an interfaith, community-based organization that exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation’s capital. They meet the immediate daily needs of the people they serve with food, clothing, and health care. They help break the cycle of homelessness by offering services, such as affordable housing, job training, addiction treatment, and counseling, to the poor, the elderly and individuals with mental illness. 2022 TSUNAA-WDC Holiday Soiree
The City Club of Washington Please park on 12th Street in the Columbia Square Parking lot. Guests can take the elevator in this parking garage to the city club, which is located on the main concourse level. Check out TSUNAA Washington, D.C. Chapter Holiday Soiree on Eventbrite! Date: December 15, 2022 Entertainment: DJ Prez will be spinning your favorite tunes on the one's and two's! The Washington DC Chapter will be supporting families with your love donations. We are supporting families from the branch of love program which services children of those who are incarcerated. The program is asking for either a Target, Walmart or Mastercard/Visa gift card in $25 denominations: cash donations as well. We are also supporting the family of Ian Persaud, who was killed Oct 31st in Prince George’s county protecting his wife from an attacker. He left behind a wife and two small kids. Your monetary donation will cover necessary expenses not covered by their own insurance. Donations will be taken at the door and online through Eventbrite. |

65th Anniversary - TSUAA-WDC Chapter Tennessee State University Washington, D.C. Alumni Chapter to WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Tennessee State University Washington, D.C. Alumni Chapter will celebrate 65 years of service to the tristate community with the Blue Sapphire Anniversary Rooftop Celebration and Reception on Friday September 6th, 2019. An exquisite cocktail affair, the fundraiser reception will take place at the rooftop of the Cambria Hotel Downtown Convention Center located at 899 O Street NW Washington, D.C. 20001 and will begin at 6:00PM. Guests should prepare themselves for a cocktail themed evening of style, fellowship and dancing as they are whisked away by the D.C. skyline. Additionally, guests will enjoy a red-carpet style evening inclusive of a cocktail and awards reception for guests, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a themed photo section and signature cocktails, all while dancing the night away. The 65th Anniversary Reception will also honor notable alumni who have provided exceeding service to better the TSU DMV Alumni community. Honorees will be highly distinguished individuals, with major contributions across multiple industries and support of the TSUAA-WDC Alumni chapter. Proceeds from the 65th Anniversary, will benefit the chapter’s annual scholarship fund.

TSUAA-WDC November Give Back For the month of November, we have collaborated with St. Ann's Center for Children, Youth and Families in Hyattsville, MD to support their current families. Their goal this season is to organize and stock a food pantry with food donations that are specific to the Hispanic culture. Therefore, we are collecting donations at both the Happy Hour and our November meeting for a December drop off. If you would like to make a monetary donation, you can do so in person or online via our PayPal account (wdc-tsualumnichapter@tsuwdc.com). Please designate in the note section this is for the November Give Back.
